Suan Sunandha Joins Forces with 9-Institution Network for Coastal and Mangrove Conservation Drive
Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, in collaboration with a network of 9 higher education institutions dedicated to graduate quality development, organized the "Coastal Environmental Conservation and Mangrove Planting Activity" on Friday, May 22, 2026. The event took place at the Phanthai Norasing Shrine in Mueang Samut Sakhon District, Samut Sakhon Province. Through hands-on experiences and active participation, students from all nine institutions gained a profound awareness of the vital importance of mangrove forests and ecosystems to living organisms. The initiative fostered a strong sense of environmental consciousness through the following operations:
- Planting mangrove trees (Rhizophora mucronata)
- Releasing aquatic animals (crabs) into their natural habitat
- Repairing and painting bridges
- Improving landscapes and trimming trees along the walkways
- Cleaning up and collecting waste along the canal banks
- Enhancing landscapes and areas surrounding the Thai Pavilion (Sala Thai)
- Sapling propagation activities
- Learning about community-based culinary traditions
These initiatives strictly align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically under the "Planet" dimension. This dimension focuses on addressing climate change, promoting efficient resource utilization, and protecting ecosystems to safeguard a prosperous planet for future generations.
The core SDG frameworks directly associated with these environmental conservation efforts include:
- SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation): Managing water resources sustainably, improving water quality, and reducing pollution.
- SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy): Supporting renewable energy adoption and enhancing energy efficiency.
- SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production): Reducing waste, minimizing food waste, and restricting harmful chemical usage.
- SDG 13 (Climate Action): Mitigating greenhouse gas emissions to control global temperatures and building climate-induced disaster resilience.
- SDG 14 (Life Below Water): Conserving and sustainably utilizing oceans, seas, and marine resources.
- SDG 15 (Life on Land): Protecting and restoring terrestrial forests, halting deforestation, and preserving biodiversity.
