Suan Sunandha Preserves Southern Cultural Heritage with "Sat Duen Sip" Festival: SSRU Southern Student Club Leads Traditional "Mharub" Procession to Honor Ancestors

Bangkok – On Sunday, October 11, 2026, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, through the "SSRU Southern Student Club" in collaboration with Social Studies students from the Faculty of Education, organized the cultural event titled "Preserving Sat Duen Sip: Honoring and Dedicating Merit to Ancestors" at Wat Rajathiwat Wihan, Dusit District, Bangkok. The initiative aimed to preserve the traditional Southern Thai "Sat Duen Sip" (Tenth Lunar Month Festival) and foster cultural awareness and heritage conservation among students.

The proceedings commenced at 7:30 AM with the assembly of the traditional "Mharub" (offering container) procession at the Baan Kru Lawn, Faculty of Education. The parade departed at 8:00 AM, passing through the Graduate School Gate of Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University and processing toward Wat Rajathiwat Wihan.

Starting from 9:00 AM onwards, participants engaged in traditional Buddhist religious rites, including a sermon, Bangsukun merit-making ceremonies dedicated to deceased ancestors, and offering meals to Buddhist monks and novices. The event concluded with the customary "Ching Pret" ceremony (offering ritual for departed spirits), a central highlight of the Sat Duen Sip tradition.

This activity provided an active learning space for students to inherit cultural heritage, pass down traditions across generations, and cultivate pride in Southern Thai identity and cultural roots, reinforcing student participation in preserving Thailand's rich arts and culture.
